I have not blogged as much as I would of liked these previous months and that is something I will work on to improve. At the end of 2016, I wrote a blog post titled, "Yearly Wrap Up." In this blog I talked about my goals for 2017. In this blog I will revisit those goals and provide an update on my progress towards meeting them.
Last year I took a position as Director of HR at Highline College. My goal was to add value and to help improve the students, the HR department and Highline College. I believe I have done this up to a point. No one makes as much progress as they would like. Especially, with the roadblocks that come with working at a state institution.
I have been very proud to help support various groups at Highline College. Such as the STEM and TRiO end of year celebrations. There are some great people doing great things at Highline College.
For my startup cavnessHR, I have made a lot of progress. But not as much as I would like. I will give a more detailed cavnessHR update on my next blog. One of my goals for cavnessHR was to have 100 paying customers. Which I realized at the time was not a realistic goal. But I still have 6 months to achieve this goal. My next blog on cavnessHR will tell everyone how close or far away I am from this goal.
I also had the goals of becoming more active on Snapchat and FB Live as a way to build cavnessHR. I have not done either of these as of today. Not sure why I have not done so. But I need to refocus on these goals.
I wanted to continue with my networking at various events around the Seattle/Tacoma area. I believe I have done this. Although, with me now having a full time position, it is hard to do all the networking I would like to do. For example, Chamber of Commerce meetings are usually during the work day. Which makes it slightly harder to attend.
In support of my Fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. I helped to put on a job search seminar at the University of Washington. About 30 college students attended and they all provided positive feedback. I also took on the role of Chapter VP for the EpsilonEpsilonSigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. I am doing my best to help improve our chapter and to increase the impact we have on our community.
I have met my goal of becoming more involved in my community. From participating in the @EpsilonEpsilonSigma chapter monthly @STEMbyTAF mentoring sessions. To helping to judge STEM Expo events @STEMbyTAF and supporting other events in the community. I believe I am doing my part to make this a better world.
I have not met my goal of seeking out opportunities to speak about cavnessHR. I do plan on being more aggressive in seeking out these opportunities in the next 6 months. I realize that in order for cavnessHR to be successful, I need to get in front of people and talk about cavnessHR.
I wanted to get back to the gym and improve my health and get down to 180 pounds. I have not been to the gym as much as I would like. I have only been about 10 times since January and my diet is not the best. But somehow, I am down to 190 from 200. I don't know how that happenned, but I will take it.
The first part of this year has not seen me accomplish everything I wanted. But I am happy with my progress and I think that is all anyone can ask for anyway.
