I have decided that the name for my Startup will be cavnessHR. Coming up with this name was not easy. Even though it is my own last name. As I said in my last blog post, I looked at 1724 possible names over a three month period before I came up with the six names I asked people to vote on for me.

The highest vote getters were InvivoHR with 19 and CuragoHR with 11. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote. However, there were some negative comments about both that I could not ignore. Neither potential name inspired anyone to think about HR or the success of Startups. Also after some more research, I found that there is an Invivo HR in Turkey and an In Vivo HR in Singapore.

Both of which had LinkedIn company pages. So I would of had to alter the name of the company to have my own LinkedIn company page. Neither company had the .com or the Twitter handler or the FB page associated with the name. So I am sure there would have been no issue with me naming the company InvivoHR. (with the exception of the LinkedIn page) But I did not want to take the chance of there being any potential mix ups in SEO.

Although, CuragoHr did receive 11 votes, it did have quite a few negative comments. So I did not feel comfortable using CuragoHR as the name. I also did not want to use my name as I thought jasoncavnesshr would be too long. It also seems that most advice on naming your Startups says not to use your name.

I talked to several people about my naming challenge. One suggested that I drop the jason from jasoncavnesshr and just use cavnessHR. I asked a few people what they thought about cavnessHR. All of them to include Nick Hughes @jnickhughes of  Founders LIVE liked this name.

So after this input and feedback, I decided to name my Startup cavnessHR.

Since making the naming decision, I have purchased the domain and hosting through namecheap and I have applied to register the company as a LLC with the State of Washington. I now need to work on coming up with a logo. Which I hope will not be as difficult as coming up with a name.
