How We Convinced David Meltzer to Join the CavnessHR Board of Advisors
How David Meltzer Joined the CavnessHR Board of Advisors
This is the story of how I convinced David Meltzer to join the CavnessHR Board of Advisors. Just in case there is anyone who is not aware of David and all the great things he is doing. I am sharing his bio below.
David Meltzer is the Co-Founder of Sports 1 Marketing and formerly served as CEO of the renowned Leigh (“Lee”) Steinberg Sports & Entertainment agency, which was the inspiration for the movie Jerry Maguire.
His life’s mission is to empower OVER 1 BILLION people to be happy! This simple yet powerful mission has led him on an incredible journey to provide one thing…VALUE. In all his content, and communication that’s exactly what you’ll receive. As part of that mission, for the past 20 years, he’s been providing free weekly trainings to empower others to empower others to be happy.
I came across David Meltzer during my regular every day following of other people and events on Social Media. I am pretty sure I came across David from following Gary Vaynerchuk. But I am not 100% sure.
I don’t remember the exact date I first came across David. But I was drawn to his philosophy on life and entrepreneurship and how he operated. Also, all the value he was adding to so many people.
I saw that he had an Entrepreneur Elevator Pitch TV show that was very interesting to me. I even reached out to David over Instagram to ask how I could apply to pitch CavnessHR on the show. To my surprise, I received a reply from him within minutes saying the show was on a hiatus because of COVID and how else he could be of service. I knew right then that David was not your typical person and I should figure out how to become involved with him.
This is also when I decided I needed to figure out a way to convince David to join the CavnessHR Board of Advisors. I realized the value he would add and the great help he would give in scaling CavnessHR.
I continued to follow him on social media and listen to his podcast The Playbook. I also continued to engage with him on Social Media and receive lots of value from David.
Then I learned about his monthly 2-minute pitch competition. This is where each month 10 companies pitch him for 2 minutes and he provides feedback. First, I had to apply to participate and I was accepted as one of the contestants.
The 2-minute pitch competition was live streamed on July 24 and I knew I wanted to make a great impression on David. As it was my intention to leverage this as part of my plan to convince him to join the CavnessHR Board of Advisors.
Although, the pitch was only 2 minutes. I am sure I rehearsed at least 100 times. All the practice paid off as David and the judges selected me as the second-place winner. With this I won some of David’s books and free year in his fb coaching group. I was now able to engage David more directly at least once a week in a more controlled environment.
Below is my pitch to David.
I also repurposed the entire pitch competition on my podcast, The Jason Cavness Experience. As an avid Podcaster I love talking to amazing people such as Rand Fishkin.
As you know, I am also a City Leader for Bunker Labs Seattle. In this role, I help out with the Seattle Veterans in Residence Cohort. As part of this, I facilitate weekly huddles with them and bring in speakers to help mentor them.
It was also part of my plan to invite David to be a speaker for one of our weekly huddles. When I asked David if he could do this. He immediately had his people figure out a way to make this work. After some back and forth, we were able to figure out the best way to make this happen.
After this and before David spoke to the Seattle ViR. I continued to engage with David on Social Media and attend his weekly FB coaching group. I was having some pretty positive interactions with David and I believed he knew enough about what we are building at CavnessHR to ask him to join the CavnessHR Board of Advisors.
When I asked David to join the CavnessHR Board of Advisors I was not sure what he would say. Although, I do my best to expect success and I believed I had done what I could do to convince him to say yes. With a person as productive and influential as David, you just never know.
However, he quickly said yes. We are looking forward to David’s input to CavnessHR as a member of our Board of Advisors.
In this new role, David Meltzer will advise CavnessHR on strategy, operations, developing and exploring new business verticals and expanding the CavnessHR network.
