We submitted the cavnessHR Executive Summary for the UW-Tacoma VIBE Business Plan Competition. https://www.tacoma.uw.edu/veterans-incubator-better-entrepreneurship/business-plan-competition-0 Below is the link to what we submitted. We had numerous people review this for us and lots of hard work went into preparing. We find out this Friday if we advance to the next round.
So scratch that last sentence. We have now found out from the UW-Tacoma Vibe Instagram that the deadline to submit has been extended from April 13 to April 23. So just like last year, this competition is changing the rules on the fly. This is very frustrating.
We had a great meeting with Bill Herling https://www.linkedin.com/in/bill-herling/
His company, HummingTree, http://hummingtree.co is going to disrupt how we all pay for ads.
As we said before, we have 37 VC firms in the areas of Seattle, Silicon Valley, Texas and Boston that might be a match for us when it is time to raise funds. Well, we have the free version to Crunchbase. https://www.crunchbase.com/ This last week we received an email from them saying you can now follow companies and people with the free version.
We are now following those 37 VC firms and whenever they post an update in Crunchbase we will be notified. This will allow us to see what they are doing and provide opportunities to engage with them at the right opportunities.
We are now building the cavnessHR site using the MERN Stack. Mongo, Express, React, Node
We currently use Buffer www.buffer.com to push out most of our social media. But we are switching to Smarterque https://smarterqueue.com/ The big difference with Smarterque is that it allows you to tag people in the social media you schedule. This is a great way to make sure the others see your content. Because of this switch we have set up an actual social media schedule.
We took part in the weekly SHRM Twitter chat called #nextchat https://blog.shrm.org/tags/nextchat-0 This is a weekly discussion on Twitter among numerous HR professionals. It is based on a set of 8 questions that helps to guide the Twitter chat. We have some great discussions on here and connect with some great people. We want to give a shout out to Jazmine Wilkes https://www.linkedin.com/in/jazmine-wilkes-9445a885/ for co-hosting this twitter chat. She has only been HR for two years and she is doing some amazing things.
We completed the Bunker Labs Launch Online Accelerator https://bunker.launchlabonline.com/user/dashboard Sales and Business Development classes.
This was a great class about building your sales process and how Business Development should play a role in your startup.
We conducted another interview with a student from the RISE program at the University of Puget Sound. https://www.pugetsound.edu/academics/experiential/for-students/featured-programs/rise/ This is the 4th student we have interviewed. Of the 3 we already interviewed. One has confirmed they will intern for us. One has indicated they are leaning towards interning for us and one we have not heard from.
We met with the three Green River College students who are doing their capstone project with us.
We informed them that we changed their project to work on linking the job descriptions from the Department of Labor O*NET site https://www.onetonline.org/ to our website and our job descriptions questionnaire.
We had a great meeting with Caleb King https://www.linkedin.com/in/calebking3/ Caleb is a Software Engineer who hosts the People in Tech Podcast. https://anchor.fm/people-in-tech We had a great talk about how we can collaborate and help each other out.
In a switch, I was interviewed by five Pacific Lutheran University https://www.plu.edu/ students. They are all seniors receiving degrees in Business with a concentration in Management and HR. Of course, I am biased. But this was a great talk. Hopefully, they received as much out of this as I did.
