Another busy and at times productive week at cavnessHR.
We attended the orientation for the Veterans in Residence program at WeWork. https://www.wework.com/veterans-in-residence It was a chance to meet the other members of the program in Seattle and to meet the WeWork team.
During the last week, we reached out to some UX/UI people in the area to see if they would be interested in discussing design and how important it is to the success of a business. With the main intent, of course, to recruit them for cavnessHR.
We had a great meeting with Katie Stewart https://www.linkedin.com/in/katie-stewart-64a9192b/
of Professional Benefit Services. https://www.linkedin.com/in/katie-stewart-64a9192b/ We discussed what each of our companies does and how we could potentially work together in the future. It was a great initial meeting.
We attended a meetup put on by Positive Mafia on Visual Marketing. Positive Mafia is a new creative marketing company led by Kevin Inthapandith https://www.linkedin.com/in/kevin-inthapandith-14968072/ It was a great event. They plan on holding these once a month.
Kevin came by my Veterans in Residence workspace to see the optimal place to start filming the cavnessHR HR for small business videos. If cavnessHR makes it to the video round of the Business Impact NW pitch competition. https://businessimpactnw.org/annualevents/impact/
Kevin will also help us with the video for that as well.
We attended the 2018 Seattle Tech Talks https://www.seattletechtalks.com/ One of our customers SM Diversity http://smdiversity.com/ was a sponsor and we went to show our support for all the great things SM Diversity is doing for the community.
We also went to support our fellow Veterans in Residence member Missy Byrd https://www.linkedin.com/in/tramesebyrd/ She pitched her company Blazn https://blazn.app/
She did a great job pitching and of course, we are biased. But Missy should have won the pitch competition.
On Thursday, August 16 at 1130 am (PST) we are doing a webinar on HR for small business, (less than 50 employees) how to deal with difficult employees and EO. Business Impact NW is hosting the webinar. https://businessimpactnw.org/calendar/business-expert-session-hr-101-for-small-businesses/
Below is the link to sign up for this webinar. Be sure to sign up even if you can't attend. As you will be able to watch the replay at your convenience if you sign up.

We continue to meet with our customers on a weekly basis and learn valuable lessons from them that we are using to improve cavnessHR.
We took the Later www.later.com Instagram Analytics Strategy Guide Course. It was very informative on how to track the analytics for our cavnessHR Instagram. We also took a course on the new Instagram TV or IGTV including how to create and edit videos on the platform. IGTV seems pretty promising as another platform for cavnessHR to use.
We do have a big change in how we are building cavnessHR. Our CTO works full time in the Air Force as one of the leading software developers in the Air Force. The previous plan was to bring on junior devs and have them build the site. Then our CTO could oversee their work and make corrections. Well, so far this method has failed big time. We have been using this method for about a year and we have made no notable progress on the site.
The plan is now to have our CTO build the site out as much as possible. Or at least out to the MVP stage. Then use this to gain more customers and traction. Which in theory should help us recruit qualified junior devs to help us to continue to build out the sight.
For the tech side, we met with our tech Board Advisor and discussed our tech strategy and lessons learned from working with our summer interns. We tested Node (NestJS) and Java Spring (JHipster) backend stacks to determine which would be the best option for cavnessHR. We decided on NestJS after running our tests and discussing it with our tech Board Advisor. We also built an Angular6 boilerplate + end-to-end test setup for our frontend.
We submitter the aSuggestion weekly engagement question of the week. https://asuggestion.com/s It covered how do you handle challenging employees. Which is one of the subjects we will cover on our webinar this Thursday.
