This week for cavnessHR it seemed like the more we did, the more we needed to do. It also seemed sometimes that everything was going great. Then it seemed at times like everything we did was wrong.
We are in the middle of the Business Impact NW pitch competition. We are currently in the video part of the competition. Each business had to submit a video to go from the round of 22 to the round of 8. The video had to talk about the team, the regional impact and other items. The videos are posted on the Business Impact NW website to allow people to vote for the video of their choice. The place your video finishes in the voting will have an impact on if your business makes it to the final 8.
We have been using LinkedIn, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, FB and our FB groups in an attempt to obtain as many votes as possible. I also sent a text to everyone of my phone contacts to ask them to vote.
However, despite this, cavnessHR is currently in 14th place. We are about 1100 votes behind first place and 250 votes behind 8th place. We have until September 3 to change this.
I ask that you take a look at our video at http://businessimpactnw.org/annualevents/impact/vote/?contest=video-detail&video_id=14499 and vote for cavnessHR. If you deem the video worthy of your vote.
We continued to do the cavnessHR podcast. We interviewed 10 great guests and they each brought lots of value. They each had interesting stories and perspectives. I am looking at starting to post them around the end of September. They will be posted on iTunes, Stitcher and SoundCloud.
One thing I am doing for the podcasts, is I am using FB Live at the time of the podcasts. So far I have had a low of 5 people on the FB Live and a high of 67 people.
The one low point for the podcasts is that on one of them. I somehow pushed the record button during the wrong times. So none of the interview part is recorded. I only recorded the parts before and afterwards. I felt really bad about this and apologized. It was a great talk with lots of great points.
We started doing FB ads for the area that is 25 miles outside of DuPont, Wa. We have only been running them for less than a week. I don't think that is a long enough sample to determine if they are working are not yet. We plan on running this ad for a month and then figuring out what to do next.
I went to the Ignite U https://igniteu365.com/ meeting on Tuesday. As usual there was great energy and we met some great people. We also received a free ticket to the Ignite U boat ride in commencement bay. That was a great event and we met some more great people.
We were scheduled for a meeting with a potential dev in Seattle. I was very excited about this meeting. I had met with her before and I believed she could make a great impact. I was pretty sure that she was leaning towards joining us. But the night before she told me that she had to cancel. She had an interview that she had to prepare for instead of coming to our meeting. Which of course I understood. We are not able to pay anyone yet and she has a chance for an actual paying position.
I asked several people for their feedback on recruiting devs for a startup. Especially, when your ability to pay is limited. I received some great feedback and some ideas I had not considered. I will be looking at implementing these ideas in the future. I am also still considering using a software development firm to finish building out the cavnessHR site. But I still need to do more research on that.
I had a great meeting with Micah Brown of https://www.brandmarketingmastery.com/ He went over some great marketing strategies that I should consider. He also talked to me about how I can better utilize YouTube to bring in potential customers. He asked lots of great questions that I need to consider moving forward. It was a great session and I learned a lot from Micah.
