It is estimated that each year small business loses $27B or $10,000 per small business employee. It is also estimated that small business owners spend 25% of their time on HR-related items. Time that would be better spent taking care of their people, customers and building their business.

My focus with CavnessHR is to save small businesses time and money on HR.

I started CavnessHR after working at a previous startup in the Seattle area. During that time, I noticed that most startups did not have HR. I thought this might be a problem I could solve. They tell you to do your research and according to the SBA, there are 5M companies in the U.S. with 49 or fewer people.

Most of them do not have an actual HR person doing HR. This is because internal HR can be from $60,000 or more per year plus benefits. Then most HR consultants overcharge on price and under deliver on value. Both options don’t work for most small businesses.

As you might notice I did a small pivot from HR for startups to HR for companies with 49 or fewer people.

They then tell you to validate your idea. Over a 6-month time period, I talked to 331 small business owners and startup founders. It was more complicated than this. But I basically asked if they would pay for HR if it was affordable and did what they needed.  I received positive responses from 90%. With that, I decided to go all-in with CavnessHR.

At CavnessHR we provide HR to companies in the U.S. with 49 or fewer people based on the location and industry of our clients with our unique HR platform. While providing access to a dedicated HR Business Partner.

Our platform provides employee handbooks, HR policies, job descriptions, HR Laws and HR Labor posters. We also handle the onboarding of your employees and contractors. We eventually want to handle everything related to HR for small businesses on our platform.

But right now, we are not there yet. Until then we have partnerships with various companies to help us fill in the gaps we are missing and to provide additional value to our customers.
